GUITAR WORKSHOPS

    Both Muriel Anderson and Richard Smith occasionally arrange public guitar workshops while on tour.  

    PRICING :  The cost for such a workshop varies, due to the venue size and date, but typically the normal price is a minimum $500.  This expense can be subsidized or covered by the venue, or can be met with pre-sold tickets or a suggested door charge. (usually $20 to $25)

Muriel Anderson Workshops

    Muriel has performed with, jammed with and learned from legendary musicians Chet Atkins, Christopher Parkening, Les Paul, Jimmy Page, and others. She hosts the famous Muriel Anderson’s All Star Guitar Night and founded the Music for Life Alliance charity. In 1989, Muriel Anderson became the first woman to win the Natio­nal Fingerstyle Guitar Championship.

  • Muriel Anderson Fingerstyle Essentials (easy-intermediate)
    Improve your technique and interpretation organically through cool new easy tunes handpicked for this class, including “Settling the Spirit.” Based on Muriel’s Essentials Fingerstyle course, Muriel will first perform an arrangement and then break it down, measure-by-measure emphasizing key concepts, techniques and creative approaches. Includes handouts and may include a free set of signature GHS strings for each participant.

  • Really Hard Stuff for Fingerstyle Guitar (Advanced)
    Learn Muriel’s cross-string and harmonic techniques for her original style on guitar and harp-guitar. Techniques Muriel learned from Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Christopher Parkening as well as her own discoveries can help you find your own voice on the guitar. Includes material from 50 Right Hand Techniques. Upon request, may include a free set of signature GHS strings for each participant. Time allowing, Muriel will have several of her arrangements to choose from. Includes individualized work with each student.

  • Fun and Flashy Fingerstyle (Intermediate)
    Learn to play cool and easy fingerstyle solos in the style of Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Paul Simon, with Muriel’s sense of finesse and style. OK to record the workshop if you like.

  • Easy Fingerstyle Arrangements (Intermediate)
    Muriel will take the class through the process of creating easy fingerstyle arrangements of popular and handy seasonal tunes including “Auld Lang Syne” and other favorites.

Master Class format

    Muriel Anderson will hold a master class for up to 5 performers in different styles. Audience members (auditors) are invited as Muriel works with these performers and demonstrates techniques though her music as well. It is an excellent way to learn from her teaching. Auditor fee, two or more from the same family discounts available.

Lecture Format

    International touring artist Muriel Anderson discusses her path in the music business, performs her pieces and explains the techniques and philosophies behind the music. She has performed with legendary musicians cross a huge span of musical styles. She hosts the famous Muriel Anderson’s All Star Guitar Night and founded the Music for Life Alliance charity. In 1989, Muriel Anderson became the first woman to win the Natio­nal Fingerstyle Guitar Championship. This is also a chance to ask questions on a one-on-one basis in a group setting.

School assemblies

    International touring artist Muriel Anderson demonstrates the many different styles of music that can be played on acoustic guitar. Her interest in foreign languages and continued learning about people and places has proved useful in her travels abroad playing music. Muriel uses this opportunity to encourage continued learning and delving more deeply into music and other disciplines. She takes questions from the audience, so please prepare your students to do research ahead of time and have some questions ready. 

Other Workshops

  • 1-2-3 Fingerstyle
    Based on Muriel’s 1-2-3 Fingerstyle Guitar course, it is designed for players who are ready to throw down that pick for a while to finally get a handle on fingerstyle. This workshop presents presents a way to get at the heart of the music, without being bogged down working through a ton of remedial instruction. You’ll find the left-hand side of things very familiar and accessible. You’ll dive right into developing that finger/thumb independence on the right-hand, and to get going playing cool and authentic sounding fingerstyle tunes and riffs.

  • Making the most of your time with the guitar.
    Muriel will cover technique, arranging, interpretation and inspiration. There will be time for individual questions from the audience also. She will intersperse performance with discussion. Every participant will have the opportunity to ask questions, to explore techniques for arranging, better playing and musicianship, inspirations behind co­mpositions and her approach to music. Muriel will also have some new hands-on techniques, riffs, or tunes to teach. Handouts will be provided, open to guitarists of all levels. OK to record the workshop if you like.
